Stroud National Agency, Inc. is heading into its 65th year with an expanded partnership with Chubb Agribusiness and a dedicated solution for commercial agribusiness risks. Commercial Ag Insurance from Chubb & Stroud pairs our agent‑first MGA and wholesale broker model with Chubb’s specialized commercial agribusiness insurance solutions.

Commercial Ag: a new chapter in our 65th year

In business since 1961, Stroud National has a long history of helping independent agents serve rural communities. Since 2017, we’ve expanded that commitment with dedicated solutions for main street commercial businesses. Yet ag‑related commercial risks have remained a persistent gap.

Our 2024 partnership with AIC on farm workers’ compensation in Oklahoma, New Mexico, Missouri, Arkansas, and Arizona helped address part of that gap. Even so, agents have still been looking to us for a more complete answer for commercial agribusiness accounts.

This new Chubb Agribusiness program directly addresses that need and draws on Stroud National’s combined experience in farm and ranch insurance and small business commercial insurance. It also helps fill gaps in the appetite of otherwise strong market partners Travelers Agribusiness, ARU, Liberty Mutual, Travelers Select, and Chubb Small Business.

What Chubb Commercial Agribusiness adds to the lineup

Chubb Agribusiness brings a dedicated commercial agribusiness program built for agricultural businesses that operate more like commercial enterprises than traditional farms or ranches.

Ideal accounts

This coverage is designed for commercial agribusinesses with manufacturing, processing, distribution, storage, retail, or service exposures tied to agriculture. It is not intended for risks whose primary exposure is a farm or ranch with dwellings and scheduled farm property.

Target accounts include:

  • Feedlots
  • Diversified cooperatives
  • Grain, feed, seed, and fertilizer operations
  • Farm supply stores
  • Livestock feed manufacturers (feed only)
  • Grain dealers
  • Seed merchants and dealers
  • A wide range of packing, storage, and processing operations

For these accounts, key coverages and options include:

  • Property coverage for buildings, business personal property, computers, mobile equipment, stock, and business income
  • General liability, commercial auto, workers compensation, and commercial umbrella, with standard GL and auto limits generally in the $500,000 to $1,000,000 range and umbrella options up to $2,000,000
  • Equipment Breakdown coverage
  • Enhanced “Plus” endorsements for property, general liability, and auto

Built-in advantages agents can leverage

Every Commercial Ag quote from Chubb Agribusiness includes built‑in specialty coverages that help agents deliver broader protection and a stronger story to commercial agribusiness clients without stacking multiple separate policies.

Key built-in enhancements include:

  • Product Withdrawal for insureds that grow, manufacture, or distribute consumable products. This helps cover withdrawal expenses and related crisis‑management support so you can respond confidently if a client ever faces a product event.

  • Agriculture Premises Pollution Liability, providing protection for certain gradual and sudden pollution events tied to fertilizers, chemicals, and other common commercial ag materials. This supports clearer conversations about exposures that standard policies may not fully address.

  • Employment Practices Liability Insurance (EPL) with a base limit designed for smaller employers. It addresses allegations such as wrongful termination, discrimination, harassment, and retaliation so you can bring EPL protection to more commercial agribusiness accounts without a separate monoline policy.

  • Information Security / Cyber coverage, including security breach liability, data restoration, business income and extra expense, breach response costs, public relations support, and certain cyber extortion threats. This equips you to address cyber and data‑breach concerns many commercial agribusiness clients are now asking about.

Additional program details and appetite

Regional availability

Commercial Ag Insurance from Chubb & Stroud is available across our 18-state service territory in the midwestern, southwestern, and western U.S.

In Texas, eligible accounts must be located at least 75 miles inland from the Gulf Coast.

Minimum Premium

There is a minimum premium of $25,000 for commercial ag accounts. This makes the program a strong fit for more established or growing commercial agribusiness operations rather than very small risks.

Not for Farm and Ranch Accounts

As mentioned above, this program is not intended for risks whose primary exposure is a farm or ranch with dwellings and scheduled farm property. Those accounts are better served by a dedicated farm and ranch policy, which Stroud National can help you place through our existing farm and ranch markets.

Restricted classes

Restricted classes include:

  • Aquaculture (fish farms)
  • Light food processing
  • Livestock auction barns
  • Dairy
  • Turf farms (no installation)
  • Cotton gins (casualty only)
  • Organic fertilizer

These risks face greater underwriting scrutiny, so clean, well‑documented submissions are especially important to improve the chance of approval.

Prohibited classes

Prohibited classes include:

  • Haul‑for‑hire transportation and 100% fuel cooperatives
  • Poultry and hog confinement, slaughter operations, and pet food or specialty feed manufacturing
  • Certain processing/energy risks (such as peanuts and biodiesel/ethanol plants)
  • Chemical fertilizer manufacturing
  • Heavy ag construction and erection, implement/equipment dealers and manufacturers, and irrigation repair and service

Getting Started with Commercial Ag

When quoting, Chubb requires at least 45 days of lead time from the effective date of the policy. Sixty to ninety days is even better. Because of the underwriting detail involved, that lead time helps ensure there’s room for review, follow‑up questions, and any adjustments needed to build the right solution for your client.

To keep the quoting process smooth and responsive, you’ll want to send a complete submission that typically includes the following items for Stroud National and Chubb to review:

  • Completed ACORD applications for all requested lines of coverage.

  • Chubb Agribusiness supplemental applications, depending on the account’s operations and exposures.

  • Statement of property values per building (year built, construction, square footage, and occupancy).

  • Current valued loss runs for a minimum of 3 years (5 years preferred).

  • Drivers list and workers compensation experience mod worksheet for WC, if applicable.

  • Photos or diagrams as appropriate, plus expiring and target premium by line.

Depending on the account, Underwriting may also request additional details such as a brief narrative of operations, current financial statements, or stock and transportation information.
