Sometimes you're in the mud and the muck.
Sometimes you're in the fresh air and the sunshine. That's what The Wheel represents. You hang on through the first part and wait for the birds to sing again.
The Wheel is an old Mexican cart wheel, solid wood, not spoked. Somewhere in its working life, it wore a flat on one edge and stopped being round. It kept turning anyway.
Our founder, Steve L. Stroud, picked it up somewhere in his travels, and it sat in his office from then on — in Oklahoma first, then in New Mexico after the company moved west. He came back to it often and told anyone who would listen what it meant. Enough of us have heard the stories that The Wheel belongs to everyone here. And now we’re sharing it with you.
After a few hundred turns, The Wheel and the office passed from father to son, along with the leadership of the company. Today The Wheel remains where Steve L. left it, reminding President & CEO Steve B. Stroud and the rest of us where we’ve been and what lies ahead.
Anyone who farms or ranches, or writes the people who do, already understands the point. Cattle markets, hail, drought, rate. None of it holds still. The bad stretch is a position on The Wheel, not a destination. The same goes for the good stretch. The key is to stand strong through the bad, enjoy the good, and always be preparing for what’s next.
The company Steve L. Stroud started in 1961 is now Stroud National Agency, Inc., a managing general agency and wholesale broker. We work through independent retail agents across 18 states in the midwestern, southwestern, and western U.S. — farm and ranch, irrigation, commercial agribusiness, manufactured home, and small business.
As a farm insurance wholesale broker, we offer agribusiness markets and the underwriting know-how to get ag risks placed. We work exclusively with retail agencies. There’s no minimum volume requirement. Your client stays your client.
