Protecting Ranches from Wildfire Starts Here. Wildfires threaten not just property, but the very livelihoods of farmers and ranchers. Stroud National Agency, Inc. is excited to share Texas A&M AgriLife Extension’s recent bulletin, Wildfire: Preparing the Ranch. This resource offers practical guidance for safeguarding agricultural properties against wildfires and is a must-read for insurance agents assisting clients in wildfire-prone regions.

Lessons from Experience: Strengthening Preparedness

Based in the mountains of southern New Mexico since the early 1990’s, Stroud National Agency has witnessed firsthand the devastating effects of wildfires, most recently with the South Fork and Salt fires in June 2024. We’ve also worked with agents in Hutchinson, Hemphill, and Roberts counties in the Texas panhandle who have helped navigate their communities through wildfire recovery in recent years.

Wildfires cause extensive property damage, but they also disrupt livelihoods, emphasizing the critical need for both proactive measures and comprehensive insurance coverage. As advocates for farmers and ranchers in Texas and throughout the midwestern, southwestern, and western United States, Stroud National understands the challenges these events bring and remains committed to helping the agricultural community be as prepared as possible.

The Role of Insurance Agents in Wildfire Preparation

Insurance agents play a pivotal role in helping clients prepare for and recover from wildfires. Providing access to resources like this bulletin is one important way agents can help educate and empower farmers and ranchers to adopt preventative measures that reduce risks. Whether it’s ensuring adequate coverage for equipment, property, or livestock, or advising on best practices for wildfire preparedness, agents are key allies in building resilience against natural disasters.

Working Together to Serve Texas Agriculture

While Stroud National offers farm and ranch markets to insurance agents in 18 states, the Texas agricultural community has long been near and dear to our heart. We may be based in New Mexico, but we’re a Texas company through and through. We’re also a proud partner of the Independent Insurance Agents of Texas and independent insurance agents across the state.

We are grateful to Texas A&M AgriLife Extension for the time and resources they invested in developing this bulletin. We also appreciate the National Ranching Heritage Center for sharing the bulletin via social media as part of their work to address contemporary ranching issues.

As with so many things, effectively protecting ranches from wildfire requires collective effort. That’s why we call on agents in Texas and elsewhere to study this bulletin and share it with their clients. Together, we can help farmers and ranchers protect their legacies and livelihoods from the risk of wildfires.
